The multi-award winning Oikos (pronounced eekos) is a sculptural creation that both complements and disappears into the rugged precipices on which it perches.
The extraordinary external angles enhance a dramatic, open plan interior. Inside, smartly designed spaces with staggering outlooks are, from every angle, framed by breathtaking picture windows peeking out onto gum trees and the night lights of Hepburn Springs and Daylesford.
The power of these remarkable outlooks reveals itself in the stunning bedroom, with two huge windows tempting you to leave the blinds open and sleep in starlight.
A jaw-dropping bathroom is dominated by an egg-like, black cast concrete bathtub, it’s perfect for soaking away your cares.
The hero feature in the living area is a cowhide daybed ensconced in a picture window, the ideal spot in which to lose yourself. Floor-to-ceiling sliding glass doors peel back, spilling out onto the spotted gum deck.
This thrilling retreat was designed and built as a place for love, laughter and peace.

The international Dezeen Awards aim to identify the world's most beautiful, innovative and beneficial architecture, interiors and design. In 2018 Oikos was one of only two houses selected from Australia in the prestigious house category, making the top 30 longlist from 3689 entries from 91 counties.
November 2018: Winner Architecture MasterPrize™ - Small Architecture Category
The international Architecture MasterPrize celebrates the very best in design excellence and innovation from the worlds of architectural, interior and landscape design. The MasterPrize states that its intention is “to honour the talents of those who push boundaries and set new standards, who turn the ordinary into the truly extraordinary and inspire others, today and for generations to come.”
The MasterPrize is awarded by an international jury of esteemed architects and designers. The 2018 winners were selected from over a thousand entries from 68 countries.
The MasterPrize organisers observe that, “at its best, architecture and design is about creating built forms, structures and spaces that can send our spirits soaring, reaffirm our humanity, and ultimately touch our very souls.”
